Finding Light In The Rain And The Work

Image
It has finally rained in Washington Today is the first day it has rained since I arrived here. I'm actually excited for the rain. I've been told that I'll get sick of it at some point, but I'm excited for that as well. This week has been an interesting week although the last two days weren't all that much because, as it so happens, one of my companions got really sick and we had to stay in our apartment Sunday and Monday. A member in our ward let me play his guitar while we were visiting his house. He told that I should find a way to involve music in my mission because of how much I "lit up" when I played. So I bought a guitar this last P-day. It's been fun I'm learning hymns on it and my companions also play instruments so we might get invited to play at a ward Christmas party so stay tuned for that. I had my first Zone conference Friday. It was really good we learned about this one conquistador that burned all his ships so none his crev would thi...

A Week Full Of Tender Mercies

Washington is currently broken right now. It hasn't rained since I got here and it appears it won't rain until this coming Sunday. The Tacoma area is beautiful though there are trees everywhere and the grass is actually green! The people here are really nice. We have never declined rudely and often people actually want to hear our messages. Most often though they say they're "busy". When we first got here we got to meet our Mission President and his wife and a bunch of other people helping the missionaries. I saw my 3rd grade teacher again. Shout out to Mrs. Schnofsky! On Wednesday I met my trainers. I've got two Elder Larsen and Elder Long. We visited an inactive member family and it was cool to hear there testimonies. They do believe the church is true they just don't feel like they belong in the culture. I had a really cool experience Thursday morning. We went and taught this guy named James Jolly. He had some questions about the church, but to be hones...

First Week In Tacoma?!?

Hi Elder Penrod, How was your first week of Tacoma? Who is your companion? What area are you in? Are you enjoying it so far? The weeks seem to fly by lately. We attended Curtis wrestling parent night. Officially it starts tomorrow. Some other news this week:  Elise Machen took out her endowments  Colt was pretty good at his annual doctor visit and is now taking supplements for his hip as a preventative measure Election Day is over (woot woot) and Mike Lee won Payton finally made it to Port of Spain.  We were able to hear Elder Stevenson speak today for our stake Conference. He talked all about missionary work and he goals to love, share, and invite. He invited some of the missionaries in the audience up to share their stories and testimonies. It was a very good meeting and you could feel the spirit. Did you know that we have 45 missionaries in the stake? I was soo excited to see your pictures up there on the screen. And then one of Payton's pics was of you two together. G...

The Missionary Email List For Elder Penrod

It snowed! Apparently snow is pretty rare here so I still haven't experienced weeks of rain but I got snow. Thanksgiving was good. My trainers had this friend named Colby who got referred from my trainers to the YSA ward. He had signed up to make dinner for us on Thanksgiving. Turns out he didn't know that meant he was going to make dinner for us at his house and he wasn't prepared for that. So our ward mission leader was able to get another family to feed us and we invited Colby to come join us as well. The Fellers (the family that fed us) treated Colby really well and it was cool to see. I was kind of jealous. While we were there we watched some Book Of Mormon videos. Specifically the one where Christ visits the Americas, It was quite spiritual and Colby really enjoyed it.
