How Are You?

Hi Elder Penrod,


I hope that you are having a good week. I believe Dad told you about our week, haha. It has been an interesting one for sure. We have been bailing water tonight, as well. The sump pump has been working hard.


These last two storms have been massive. We are grateful for the rain and snow though with how dry our summer was last year, hopefully we can have a better summer this year.


Curtis keeps meeting his goals for the year in January. His first goal was to place at a tournament and then he upped his goal to place in the top 3. Now he has a goal to take 1st place. We will see what the next weeks bring.


Beth and Cameron are working to have better grades this quarter. It is nice to have them more focused on grades. The upstairs computer has decided to give up the ghost, so that may be helping with that focus, good that they are recognizing the need to improve.

Either way, it is really good that they are recognizing they need to improve. 


Today we had Sis. Larsen (Kristen Larsen) from the stake Young Women's speak. She talked about the same talk you mentioned in one of our calls with Elder Bednar and how he said that the number one question that the brethren are asked is "How do I know when it is the spirit?". She shared the story of Elder Packer getting through the iron curtain because of the small actions that Elder Bednar was led to take when he met with them for a brief moment. He was able to play an instrument in the hands of the Lord because he was prepared. Those promptings were so small that he didn't recognize them at the time as important promptings but ended up giving Elder Packer the means to help him and his wife safely travel to their destination.


I know that sometimes it can be frustrating as you go out and reach out to people and wonder if your efforts are producing any fruit. But as you are striving to have the spirit with you in your service, you will be making differences in the lives around you.


I am so proud of you and all that you are accomplishing. I just love how much you have already grown and am excited for this new year for you.


This next Sunday I will be giving a small talk on you, by the way. So if you want me to say anything specific, let me know.

Easter And Such

Hi Elder Penrod, I hope that you are doing well. I probably won't have much to talk about since we spoke to you on Sunday. How are you doing? How is your week going so far? How is your companion? How are your friends doing? We had our usual Easter Egg Hunt at Lisa's on Saturday. It was fun and they were able to convince Beth and Cameron to hunt for eggs with the promise of vending machine money . It was fun to see Rylen (Liam's boy) and Ethan hunt around for eggs. It sounds like Rylan is going to be a big brother in November. Josh Burger's wife is also expecting, they will be having a boy in September. So lots of new babies on the way. Yesterday and today the deck guy has been here at the house installing our deck. I am so excited to have it, I think it will look great! We just have to figure out how we are going to barricade the dog in until the fence can be attached to the backyard. Some Friends And Some Foes (But Not Really Because We Love Everyone)

The area has finally started to get some activity now. We've been keeping some lessons going with our friend and we have some good fellowship with that. She likes attending church and the ward activities so that's good. Saturday we got bashed. She was very nice though, but really did not believe in the Book of Mormon and told us it was of Satan. Right after that we visited a drunk lady who wanted a prayer, sounds familiar, but this time it wasn't too weird. She said we were awesome and what we do is good which was nice. Transfers are coming and I'll be getting a new companion so Elder Higbee will be leaving. I'll miss him actually he's been a pretty good companion even though he's a bit trunky.
