How's My Missionary?
Hi Elder Penrod,
How are you? How is the mission going? Are you enjoying your new area? What are you learning lately?
I had an opportunity to go to a baptism for one of the kids that are in our ward. It is nice to be in the primary and have the special talent of waving my arm around, then you get invited to things like that i. It was especially cute because she wanted to speak at her own baptism so she spoke about how she decided to be baptized. It was a neat experience.
We also have a very exciting night tomorrow. Scot has decided to go through the temple and take out his endowments. We are all so excited and happy for him as he receives this gift and the blessings that come from it. We will let you know how it goes.
At work we have the opportunities to hear from different members from around the world. The one that we heard from recently is the coach from Highland High School. His coaching experiences are the inspiration for the movie "Forever Strong" about the Highland High Rugby team. He mentioned something that stood out to me. His record as coach after 35 years of coaching was 419 wins to 10 losses. He said that we need to have a laser focus on the Lord, like it says in the scriptures "Look unto me in every thought, doubt not, fear not" and we need to commit to always getting better. And finally, Be YOU. He mentioned that there is a reason that patriarchal blessings are individualized and not standardized. They are a reminder of the unique talents that you have and the uniqueness you bring. When you try to be like someone else you are limiting your own potential. I thought that was a great thought so I thought I would share it with you.
Some interesting things that happened this week:
Curtis finally got to see an orthopedic about his lumbar and it turns out it is hereditary that his spine did not fuse right there (it is the same vertebrae that Dad had problems with). It is also more common to have that (5% of the population) than to be a redhead (2% of the population).
Cameron is finished with his Lego Ford GT. It looks pretty cool, I will send you a pic. He is also enjoying playing D and D with his friends. Apparently he is a bard that is really charismatic and was rocking it on his last campaign.
Bethany is as quiet as ever but she is enjoying hanging out with Madelyn on the weekend and is contemplating joining wrestling. She loves tackling her brother and pretending to wrestle him, we shall see what she decides to do. All the youth went rock climbing last week and Curtis was belaying for her. He went into coach mode and encouraged her to keep climbing. She may have been a little mad with him but I think she was pretty happy that she made it to the top and that he didn't let her quit early.
Dad is enjoying pulling out his motorcycle again. We have had a few warm days for him to do that. It is supposed to be pretty cloudy the rest of the week though. We also went to his Grandpa's birthday party and it was a house full of Aunts, Uncles, cousins, etc. and they all didn't recognize him with how much weight he lost and the baseball cap covering his hair, haha.
Well, I love you and I am looking forward to talking to you this afternoon. I hope that all is going well and that you are finding ways to continue to grow and learn.
Love you tons!
-Mom
